José Josiano de Souza do Carmo, who had been on the run for more than two years, was apprehended on February 7 in Tarauacá, Acre. He is accused of killing a man in Rio Branco in May 2022. The victim was fatally stabbed in the chest in a domestic setting, where an argument reportedly led to the deadly confrontation. The suspect, who had been previously involved in a family dispute, fled the scene after the attack, and the police had been searching for him since then.
The crime took place at the victim’s residence in the Vila Acre neighborhood, where the suspect arrived drunk and allegedly asked to use the bathroom. After a brief interaction with the victim, who was sitting next to his wife, the suspect attacked him with a knife. The victim’s wife later explained that the attack was linked to an unresolved conflict between the two men, which had escalated during a previous incident earlier that year.
Despite being previously incarcerated for a separate case, the suspect was released before the arrest related to the homicide. Following the recent capture, authorities successfully executed an arrest warrant, bringing the two-year-long case closer to resolution. This case sheds light on the complex and sometimes violent nature of familial disputes in the region.
